Dutchmen's Breeches
Dicentra cucullaria

  • Flower: White flowers in unbranched racemes, 4 petals, the 2 outer ones with inflated spurs forming an angular V . 3/4"-1" long.
  • Leaves: Basal leaves only, 3-6" long, compound, long-stalked, grayish green above, paler beneath, with deeply cut leaflets.
  • Height: Height: 4-12".
  • Habitat: Rich woods.
  • Blooms: April-May.

White, pantaloon-shaped flowers in unbranched racemes on a leafless stalk rising above the feathery basal leaves. Leaves and habitat are very similar to Squirrel Corn, which is somewhat rarer in the area.
