Foamflower, False Miterwort
Tiarella cordifolia

  • Flower: raceme of 5-petaled flowers with long stamens
  • Leaves: basal leaves, deeply heartshaped at base, 2-4" across,toothed with 5-7 shallow lobes
  • Size: Flowers 1/4" across; plant 6-16" high in bloom
  • Habitat: Rich woods
  • Blooms: April-June

Fine white hairs on stem an leaves. Likes deep shade. Grows in colonies, spreading via underground stems.True miterwort has similar basal leaves, but also has a pair of stalkless leaves on the stem below the flowers; the flower structure is also different.
