Wild Geranium, or Spotted Cranesbill
Geranium maculatum
- Flower: Lavender, solitary or in clusters of 2-5, 1"+ wide.
Sepals 5, pointed; petals 5, rounded, separate; stamens 10;
pistil 1.
- Leaves: Leaves: 4-5" wide; gray-green, cut into deeply toothed
palmate lobes, the lower leaves long-stalked.
- Height: Height: 1-2'.
- Habitat: Woods and meadows
- Blooms: April-June.
The common name cranesbill, as well as the genus name, from
the Greek geranos ("a crane"), relate to the bill-like fruits.
