Marsh Marigold
Caltha palustris
- Flower: One or several on a branched stalk. Waxy yellow
petal-like sepals 5-9; no petals; numerous stamens and pistils.
1-1 1/2" wide;
- Leaves: Alternate, 2-7" wide, stalked, dark green, shallowly
toothed; upper leaves becoming stalkless.
- Height: Height: 1-2'.
- Habitat: Swamps, marshes, wet meadows, along streams and
brooks.
- Blooms: April-June.
A succulent plant with glossy, heart- or kidney-shaped leaves
and a thick, hollow, branching stem with bright, shiny yellow
flowers that resemble large buttercups rather than the marigolds.
Often found in clumps in swampy or boggy forest areas.
