Common Blue Violet
Viola papilionacea

  • Flower: 1/2-3/4" wide; blue to white, or white with purple veins; petals 5, the lower one longer and spurred, the 2 petals with small fine hairs at the base (inside flower "thoat").
  • Flowers on smooth stalks. Leaves: to 4" wide; heart-shaped with scalloped margins.
  • Height: Height: 3-8".
  • Habitat: Damp woods, moist meadows, roadsides.
  • Blooms: April-June.

This smooth, low plant has flowers and leaves on separate stalks.
