Downy Yellow Violet
Viola pubescens

  • Flower: Yellow, rising on long hairy stalks. 3/4" wide; petals 5, the lower 3 with dark purple veins, the 2 lateral ones bearded.
  • Leaves: Alternate broad leaves: 2-5" wide, heart-shaped, hairy, scallop-toothed; usually one basal leaf.
  • Height: Height: 6-16".
  • Habitat: Rich woods.
  • Blooms: May-June.

Stalked rather than basal leaves, with the flowers on the hairy stalk as well.
